Hello!

I’m a curious guy with a wide range of professional experience. I studied product design at the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in transportation. After graduating with six internship experiences, I joined Bally Design, a small product design consultancy in Pittsburgh. I worked on a wide range of products including firefighter gear, electrical equipment, robotic toys, medical devices, advertising installations, virtual reality programs, multimedia showcases and more.

Upon being laid off, I took time to re-evaluate my career path and determine my next steps. I explored alternate career paths while working as a freelance designer and creating content for local marketing agencies. I traveled around the United States, exploring the Northeast and Pacific Northwest: the kind of thing I would daydream about while sitting at my desk. I put together a new website, took another pass at old projects and created some new ones too. I applied to hundreds of jobs, reaching out to both new and familiar contacts in my network. Outside of the job search, I bicycled all over my hometown of Cincinnati and did a ton of yard work at my parents’ house.

During this period I also volunteered at the Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub, a nonprofit dedicated to diverting hard-to-recycle materials from landfills. I helped patrons sort their items in the drop-off center, an experience that taught me how rewarding direct service can be. I decided to combine this passion with my desire to travel and joined AmeriCorps as a Corps member with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC).

That’s what I’m doing right now: every few weeks my team and I travel to a new location and make ourselves as useful as possible by building houses, serving meals, connecting communities and growing together as humans.

I’m open to new opportunities when my service term ends in August 2025. If you think my design skills and nonprofit experience would be a good addition to your team, send me an email at samweiserdesign@gmail.com. Thanks for stopping by!
